Ableton Link

Let’s do music together

Ableton is a DAW primarily designed for live performance. How could we do music together with more than one computer? There are many different ways you can do this(LTC, MTC), but Ableton actually has its own propriatary protocol called (Ableton) LINK.

It works over a local network, so both (or more) machines must be logged into the same network. To activate it you simply click the button LINK in the upper left corner:

If that button is not there, you might have to show it in the Preferences/Settings:

If another Computer is in the same network and has Ableton Link enabled, it will show the number of connections. You have the option to be remotely sync the start and stop process of Ableton. Either in the Preferences, or by right clicking the Link Button:
